The Hotel Savannah, which stands at the right edge of the frame, is the landmark that sets this street view apart. The Detroit Publishing Company, which documented towns across the United States for travel publications and sales, made this glass dry plate negative sometime between 1900 and 1920. Savannah, with its squares and older brick commercial blocks, was a favorite subject for such photographers, and views like this one preserve how the city's streets and storefronts looked in the early twentieth century.
