Rather than a tiger, as the translated title suggests, the subject headings for this print name leopards and roosters, and the Japanese title's word "moko" (foreigner) points to the Westerners who had begun arriving in Japan's newly opened treaty ports. The signature reads Ikkeisai Yoshiiku, a prolific ukiyo-e designer of the period, and the seal is dated to a Monkey year, which matches 1860. Kanagaki Robun, a writer of popular fiction who later became known for his comic works, is listed as the creator. The color woodcut was given to the Library of Congress by Mrs. E. Crane Chadbourne in 1930.
