A foreign resident is the focus here: an Englishman shown riding horseback, smoking, and passing temple grounds in Yokohama. The print's title, *Bushu Yokohama meisho zu*, refers to the sights of Yokohama in Musashi province. The port opened to foreign trade in 1859, and Japanese printmakers quickly produced images like this one to show newcomers and curious viewers at home. Yoshitora's signature marks the design, and the carving and color printing were done by Koizumi Minokichi, a noted woodblock engraver.
