Ships returning to the pier are the focus here, one of the eight scenes of Yokohama named in the title, with foreign visitors and steamboats filling the harbor. Yokohama opened to foreign trade in 1859, and print makers quickly turned to its unfamiliar ships, Western clothing, and newcomers as fresh subjects. Yoshitora's signature appears on the design, and the writer Kanagaki Robun is also credited, with the block carved by Matsushima Seikichi. Look closely at the visitors' clothing, which shows how Japanese viewers first saw the foreign community in the port.
