Three sheets joined into one wide view show women pilgrims making their way to Enoshima, a small island off the coast of Sagami Province, to worship a sacred image of Benzaiten, the goddess of good fortune. Benzaiten was closely tied to water, music, and the arts, and her shrine on Enoshima drew visitors from Edo and beyond during the Edo period. Pilgrimage of this kind was a popular leisure activity as well as an act of devotion. The print dates to 1847 and is attributed to the engraver Koizumi Minokichi, whose name appears in the record.
