A drawbridge and foreign visitors in Tokyo are the two subjects this drawing is catalogued under, pointing to the decades around 1850 to 1900, when the city was still called Edo until it was renamed Tokyo in 1868. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo ukiyo-e artist active from the 1760s to the 1780s, but dates the sheet to 1750, which predates his known career and sits oddly with the later subject headings. That mismatch suggests the attribution or date may be uncertain, so the drawing is best read as a record of how Western collectors gathered Japanese works, as part of the David Murray Collection at the Library of Congress.
