A drawbridge crossing into the city and a group of foreign visitors are the two subjects this drawing is catalogued under, both tied to Tokyo between 1850 and 1900. That was the period when Japan opened its ports to Western trade and travel, and the old shogunal capital of Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868. The record credits the artist Isoda Koryūsai, who worked in Edo from about 1764 to 1788, and gives the date as 1750, which does not match either the artist's active years or the later subject dates. Those mismatches are worth checking against the Library of Congress catalog before relying on any one date.
