Four sheets join to show actors in the roles of Tada no Kurando Yukitsuna and Akugenta Yoshihira before the whirlpools of Naruto, the strait known for its powerful tides. The record dates the print to 1847 or 1848, when Edo's kabuki theaters drew large audiences and actor prints were a popular way to keep a favorite performer and a dramatic moment in view. The vertical, four-panel format lets the figures and the churning water unfold across the full height, and the multicolor woodblock printing of this period is worth noticing in the surface detail.
