This three-sheet color woodcut is a vertical triptych, and its title pairs two actors, Kurando Yukinaga and Saitō Kunitake, with the character Osada no Tarō Nagamune. The record dates it to 1847 or 1848, late in the Tenpō era, when Edo publishers produced large multi-sheet actor prints like this one for theatergoers and collectors. Such prints show performers in the costumes and poses of a specific role, so the costume and the staging are worth studying alongside the faces. The title's reference to a female ascetic role (onnagyōja) suggests the print captures a moment from a particular play.
