Catalogued only as a Japanese drawing, this sheet is tagged with subjects that point to Tokyo: drawbridges and foreign visitors, both dated 1850 to 1900, when Japan was opening its ports to Western trade. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist active from the 1760s to the 1780s, but dates the work to 1750, before his known career, so the date and attribution deserve caution. A botanical note also appears in the record, which does not fit the bridge and visitor subjects and is worth checking against the drawing itself.
