A drawbridge with foreign visitors on it is an unusual subject, and it is what sets this drawing apart. The catalog places the scene in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a period when Western travelers were becoming a common sight in the city after Japan reopened to foreign trade. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, who was active in Edo from about 1764 to 1788, does not fit that later setting, and the 1750 date conflicts with both. The Library of Congress record is worth checking for the most reliable date and artist.
