A drawbridge and a group of foreign visitors set this drawing apart from the other sheets on the board. The subject dates in the record, 1850 to 1900, cover the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Meiji era, when Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868 and foreigners gained access to the city under new treaties. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, who worked in Edo from the 1760s through the 1780s, does not match the 1750 date, so the sheet's age is worth checking before relying on either. Still, the drawing offers a glimpse of how the city and its newcomers were recorded during a period of rapid change.
