Set across two sheets, this diptych shows a banquet held inside a foreign settlement house, a subject that drew Japanese printmakers' curiosity in the years after the port of Yokohama opened to foreign residents in 1859. Such Yokohama prints, known as *yokohama-e*, recorded the unfamiliar dress, furniture, and table manners of Western visitors for a Japanese audience. The record credits Utagawa Yoshikazu with the design and attributes the engraving to Hori Chō, while the other artist names listed are inconsistent, so attribution is best treated as provisional. The paired sheets are worth studying for how they divide a crowded interior across the two blocks.
