Here a lodging house in Yokohama's foreign settlement serves as the setting, with visitors in Western dress gathered for conversation. The design is signed Yoshitora, an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist who produced many prints of foreigners after the port opened to trade in 1859, and the woodblocks were cut by the engraver Matsushima Seikichi. This sheet is only one section of what was probably a multi-panel print, so the rest of the scene and its title panel are now missing.
