Titled *The Skaters* and dated 1939, this lithograph shows young African American children on roller skates, a scene of everyday city play from the late Depression years. Lawrence Beall Smith signed and titled the print by hand in pencil, and it is part of the Library of Congress's Ben and Beatrice Goldstein Foundation Collection. Its focus on ordinary street life reflects the realist prints of the 1930s, which turned attention to city neighborhoods and the people who lived in them. The Library included the print in its 1999 exhibition *Life of the People*, which drew on the Goldstein holdings.
