A drawbridge and a group of foreign visitors are the two subjects named for this Tokyo drawing. The catalog credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist active from the 1760s through the 1780s, but dates the sheet to 1750, which does not fit his working years. The subject tags place the scene between 1850 and 1900, a period when Tokyo, renamed the capital after the Meiji Restoration of 1868, began receiving more Western travelers and residents. The dates in the record therefore disagree, and the sheet should be read with that uncertainty in mind.
