A drawbridge with foreign visitors on it is the detail that sets this drawing apart. The catalog places the scene in Tokyo, which was called Edo until 1868, and dates the subjects to 1850 to 1900, when Japan had just opened its ports to Western trade and travel and many outsiders came to see its cities. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist active from the 1760s to the 1780s, but gives a date of 1750, which falls before that span, so the dating should be read with caution. The drawing is part of the David Murray Collection at the Library of Congress.
