The record places this drawing at a drawbridge in Tokyo, where foreign visitors are also depicted, with a subject range of 1850 to 1900. It credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo painter and print designer documented as active from 1764 to 1788, but the catalog date of 1750 predates that career, so the dating deserves caution. Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868, and images of the city's bridges and of foreign callers from the decades after the country reopened to outside trade were often made to record a changing city.
