This stereograph shows the reservoir at Savannah, Georgia, in 1865, captured as two glass negatives that together make a paired image meant to be viewed through a stereoscope for a sense of depth. The photographer is attributed to David B. Woodbury, who died in 1866. Savannah had surrendered to Union forces in late 1864 after Sherman's march through Georgia, and photographers working in the occupied South during 1865 recorded its streets, installations, and waterworks. Wet collodion glass plates like these were the standard method of the period and required fast, careful work in the field.
