A drawbridge over a Tokyo waterway and a group of foreign visitors set this drawing apart from the broader run of Japanese views. The catalog ties its subjects to 1850 through 1900, a period when Japan was opening its ports to Western travelers. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist whose known work dates from 1764 to 1788, does not fit that later setting, and the record's date of 1750 adds another mismatch, so the sheet's age and origin are worth checking against the Library of Congress catalog. It is part of the David Murray Collection there.
