This drawing is set on a drawbridge in Tokyo, and its catalog subjects also point to foreign visitors passing through the city, a theme tied to the years 1850 to 1900. The record gives 1750 as the date, but it lists the artist, Isoda Koryūsai, as active from 1764 to 1788, so the date is uncertain. Koryūsai worked in Edo and is best known for prints of women and everyday life. The drawing came to the Library of Congress as part of the David Murray Collection.
