A drawbridge and a group of foreign visitors give this sheet its particular subject. The catalog places the scene in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a period when Japan was opening its ports to Western traders and diplomats and Edo, renamed Tokyo in 1868, was filling with foreign residents. The artist is listed as Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based ukiyo-e master whose active years, 1764 to 1788, fall well before that window. The record's 1750 date conflicts with both, so the dating deserves caution.
