Drawbridges and foreign travelers in Tokyo are the two subjects the catalog names for this drawing, which sets it apart from prints that show only city scenes. Edo, the castle town that became Tokyo in 1868, was ringed by moats, and its raised bridges controlled access to the shogun's grounds. The record gives 1750 as the date, but it also lists the artist as Isoda Koryūsai, who was active from 1764 to 1788, so the exact date of production is uncertain and worth checking against the Library of Congress entry.
