Drawbridges over the moats and canals of Tokyo, which was called Edo until 1868, are the focus here, and the catalog's subject headings also note foreign visitors in the scene. The artist is listed as Isoda Koryūsai, who was active in Edo from about 1764 to 1788 and worked in the ukiyo-e tradition of woodblock prints and painted pictures of city life. The record's date of 1750 falls before his known career, and the subject headings point to the later nineteenth century, so the dating is worth checking against the Library of Congress catalog before relying on it.
