The subject headings point to a specific scene: a drawbridge in Tokyo, with foreign visitors among the people who passed it. Those headings place the subject between 1850 and 1900, spanning the late Edo years and the early Meiji era, when the city was renamed Tokyo in 1868. The catalog date of 1750 does not match the attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, who was active from 1764 to 1788, so the dating should be read with caution. Even so, the pairing of an urban bridge with outsiders makes the sheet a useful record of how the city looked to visitors during a time of change.
