The catalog record for this drawing names a drawbridge in Tokyo as its subject and lists foreign visitors to the city among its headings, though the 1850-1900 range it gives falls well after the artist's time. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, who is documented as active from 1764 to 1788, also conflicts with the 1750 date, so the record is best read with caution. Koryūsai worked in Edo, the city Tokyo later replaced as the capital in 1868, where bridges were central to daily life and travel. The notes also mention botanicals, which suggests the sheet may combine city scenery with plant study.
