Bull Street, one of Savannah's main north-south thoroughfares, is marked in this view by an "Oglethorpe Ave." sign on a building at the right. The street grid still follows the squares James Oglethorpe laid out when he founded the colony in 1733. The Detroit Publishing Company made this glass negative around 1907, when the firm was selling many travel views of American towns. The picture shows a commercial streetscape of the period, with storefronts and signage typical of an early twentieth-century downtown.
