A gasoline plow and a gasoline road machine work across reclaimed prairie in this panoramic view, the machines set against open land that had been grassland before it was broken for cultivation. Around 1912, gasoline tractors were beginning to replace steam engines and horse teams on such work, and the wide format suits a scene of machinery crossing a long stretch of ground. H. J. Harvey made the photograph, which was entered for copyright on August 19, 1912, and the back is stamped with his name.
