A wooden plow pulled by a team of oxen turns the soil in this view from Querétaro, a central Mexican state where farming then relied heavily on animal power. The stereograph was issued around 1919 by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania, which sold paired images like this for parlor stereoscopes as glimpses of distant places. The method shown had changed little for generations, so the simple wooden frame and steady pull of the oxen make it a useful record of rural work before mechanized tractors became common.
