A drawbridge in Tokyo, and the foreign visitors catalogued alongside it, set this drawing apart from the other Japanese works on the board. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist active from about 1764 to 1788, yet dates the sheet to 1750 and its subjects to 1850 to 1900, so the attributions do not line up neatly. The later subject matter fits the Meiji-era opening of Japan to Western travelers, while the artist's working life belongs to the earlier Edo period. Treat the dates as cataloguing estimates rather than settled facts.
