This drawing is catalogued under the name Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist whom the record places as active from 1764 to 1788, and its subject headings point to drawbridges in Tokyo and to foreign visitors in the 1850-1900 period. The dates do not agree with one another. A 1750 date falls before the artist's recorded working years, and the 1850-1900 span runs after them, so the attribution and timing should be checked against other sources. Koryūsai is best known for ukiyo-e prints of urban life, beauties and landscapes, and the record's note on flowers and botanicals suggests the sheet may be a study of plant subjects rather than a view of the city.
