The record for this drawing gives conflicting details. Its subject headings point to a drawbridge in Tokyo and foreign visitors there between 1850 and 1900, while its notes list flowers and botanicals, and its 1750 date predates the 1764 to 1788 period given for the artist, Isoda Koryūsai. Koryūsai was a leading ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period, known for images of beautiful women. Tokyo was opened to foreign residents in the later nineteenth century, so a drawing of a bridge and visitors there would capture a city in transition.
