The catalog ties this drawing to a drawbridge in Tokyo and to foreign visitors, which places its subject in the years around 1868, when Edo became Tokyo. The same record, however, gives a date of 1750 and an artist active from 1764 to 1788, so the dating is uncertain. Isoda Koryūsai was an Edo-based painter and printmaker known for elegant figure studies. The record's note on flowers and botanicals suggests plant subjects may appear alongside the architecture, and those conflicting details are worth weighing before accepting any single date.
