Drawbridges and foreign visitors in Tokyo are the subjects this record names, though its dates do not line up neatly. It gives 1750 as the date, yet credits an artist active from 1764 to 1788, and its subject headings place the scene between 1850 and 1900, a span that followed Japan's opening to foreign trade in the 1850s. Isoda Koryūsai was an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist best known for elegant prints of women and fashionable life, so the attribution is worth reading with those gaps in mind.
