Looking down from a high overlook, this view takes in a broad valley dotted with farmsteads, fields and tree lines pressed up against the ridges. Scenes like this one are a large part of why Skyline Drive was built along the crest of the Blue Ridge in Virginia. The road was designed to show travelers the working landscape of the Shenandoah Valley and the mountains above it, and the patchwork of farms below reflects the agricultural life that shaped the region for generations before the park was established.
