Here a wooded valley opens below a ridge along Skyline Drive, with a town sitting far off across the lowland. The road follows the crest of the Blue Ridge through what became Shenandoah National Park, and it was built in the 1930s as part of a New Deal effort to open the mountains to motorists. Worth noticing is how the ridgeline frames the view, with the broad Shenandoah Valley stretching out to the west.
