This drawing is catalogued under a drawbridge in Tokyo and foreign visitors to the city, subjects that point to the decades after Japan opened to outside trade in the 1850s. The record dates it to 1750, yet it credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo painter and printmaker whose known career runs from about 1764 to 1788, so the date is likely approximate or refers to a different period. The Library of Congress holds it among its Japanese prints and drawings as part of the David Murray Collection. Its botanical note also suggests plant subjects may appear alongside the urban scene, which would make it worth a closer look.
