A drawbridge over a Tokyo waterway, with foreign visitors shown crossing it, sets this drawing apart from the other Japanese works on the board. The catalog subject headings place the scene between 1850 and 1900, a time when Japan was opening its ports to Western travelers and Edo had been renamed Tokyo. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo painter and printmaker active from the 1760s to the 1780s, does not fit that later window, and the 1750 date may be a cataloging approximation. Readers should treat the subject headings as the most reliable guide to what the drawing shows.
