Two sheets printed from carved woodblocks in color make up this diptych, which the record describes as matted in left and right sections. Its listed date of 1750 is early for polychrome woodcuts, since full-color ukiyo-e printing developed in the 1760s, and the subject heading "Ethnic groups" points to a range of 1800 to 1850. The engraver, Matsushima Seikichi, is credited with the carving. Ukiyo-e prints were mass-produced, so a multi-sheet composition like this one was a deliberate choice that let a single scene spread across the width of the paper.
