A drawbridge in Tokyo is the subject this record names, though the entry does not agree with itself. It is dated 1750, the artist Isoda Koryūsai is listed as active from 1764 to 1788, and the subject headings point to 1850 to 1900. The foreign-visitor heading fits the decades after Japan opened its ports in the 1850s, when Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868 and Western travelers began arriving in greater numbers. Koryūsai is better known for Edo prints of beauties and landscapes than for botanical studies, so the attribution and date are worth checking against the catalog before relying on them.
