The record points to a drawbridge in Tokyo and to foreign visitors, subjects that its own dates place in the late Edo and Meiji years of 1850 to 1900. The same record, however, gives a date of 1750 and a "botanicals" note, so its details should be read with caution. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based artist active from the 1760s into the 1780s, fits neither the 1750 date nor the later subject range. Koryūsai is best known for woodblock prints of beautiful women and scenes of everyday life, so a drawing of this kind would differ from the work he is famous for. Anyone studying the sheet should check the original cataloguing before drawing firm conclusions.
