This drawing pairs a Tokyo drawbridge with botanical study, according to its catalog subjects and notes, though its 1750 date sits oddly with the artist's documented years. Isoda Koryūsai, the named artist, was an ukiyo-e master active from about 1764 to 1788, best known for woodblock prints of beautiful women and for bird-and-flower work that showed a keen eye for plants. The catalog's 1850-1900 subject range and its 18th-century date don't fully agree, so the dating deserves caution. The sheet is still worth a look for how one drawing combines a city landmark with close attention to natural detail.
