A drawbridge in Tokyo and the foreign visitors who appear in its subject tags set this sheet apart from the many city views on the board. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an ukiyo-e artist recorded as active from 1764 to 1788, but gives a date of 1750, which falls before that span, so the dating calls for caution. The subject tags place the scene between 1850 and 1900, a period when Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868 and Japan's ports opened to foreign trade and travel.
