Printed across three joined sheets, this triptych shows the foreign business quarter of Yokohama, a port that opened to Western trade in 1859. The design is signed by Hiroshige, and the blocks were cut by the engraver Koizumi Minokichi. Its streets are filled with carriages, Japanese townspeople, and foreign residents, which captures how quickly Western dress, goods, and transport were reshaping the port in the early 1870s.
