This 1936 silkscreen poster announces art classes for children in Illinois and was sponsored by the Federal Art Project, part of the New Deal's employment program for artists during the Depression. The designer signed only with the initials REK. Silkscreen let federal poster units print bold, flat color in multiple copies at low cost, which explains the poster's crisp shapes. A date stamp on the back, February 16, 1940, shows the board was still in circulation about four years after it was printed.
