Chicago is the setting for this 1940 poster, which announces art classes for children at a time when the city was among the places where the Federal Art Project offered free instruction to local residents. Sponsored by the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, it was printed in silkscreen, a low-cost method the program's poster unit used to produce bold, flat-color notices for public buildings. A date stamped on the back, February 16, 1940, places it in the program's final years before wartime demand reshaped federal arts work.
