Aimed at young people in Chicago, this 1940 silkscreen poster promotes art classes for children, a program sponsored by the Federal Art Project of the Work Projects Administration. During the Depression, the Federal Art Project offered free instruction in community centers and schools, which gave unemployed artists paid work and brought creative training to families who could not afford private lessons. The poster's flat, bold color reflects silkscreen, a method the WPA poster division used widely because it was inexpensive to produce in quantity and could be carried out by workers with limited printing experience.
