A silkscreen poster for an exhibition of drawings and paintings made by children in the free art classes of the Federal Art Project, New York, 1936, with a horse as its central motif. Under the Works Progress Administration, the Federal Art Project employed artists across the country, and its classes offered children free instruction during the Depression. The WPA poster division used the stencil silkscreen process to produce bold, flat-colored announcements like this one, which were inexpensive to print in quantity and easy to read from a distance. The pale date stamp on the back shows the sheet was later filed in the collection in 1939.
