This poster advertises an art exhibition at the Free Public Library in New Bedford, Massachusetts, with the run dates beginning January 25. It was printed in color silkscreen, a method the Federal Art Project's poster unit used to make inexpensive, eye-catching notices for community events during the Depression. The record dates it to 1936, though a date stamp on the back reads January 20, 1938, so the printing and the stamp may not match. Like much of the Works Progress Administration's poster output, it shows how federal arts programs brought exhibitions and public art into local libraries and town halls.
