Newbury Street in Boston hosted this Federal Art Project show from November 28 to December 10, 1938, and the poster announcing it was printed in color by silkscreen. The Works Progress Administration, renamed the Work Projects Administration in 1939, employed artists during the Depression, and its Federal Art Project made posters for exhibitions, concerts, and public health campaigns across the country. Silkscreen was a relatively inexpensive method that let designers use flat, bold areas of color, which helped these posters stand out on city walls. A date stamp on the back indicates the print was processed on November 25, 1938, just days before the show opened.
